[size=4]We are a group of Saint Bernard enthusiasts dedicated to the health, welfare, betterment and enjoyment of this wonderful breed of dog.[/size] The North Island St Bernard Association Inc. was formally recognized by the New Zealand Kennel Club in December 1981 after a dedicated group of Saint owners banded together to form a club. The NISBA is a proactive club recognizing the needs of both pet and show St. Bernard owners. In February 1982 we held the first Match Parade and Battle of the Giants often referred to as the BOG together with invited breeds Pyrenean Mountain Dogs and Newfoundlands in Taupo. This event was a great success and the 1983 BOG saw us include the Bernese Mountain Dogs for a weekend which has always been as much about socializing and having fun as it ever was holding the Match. The BOG has been held annually since its inception, occasionally including breeds other than the invited foundation breeds and has usually included a Fund Raising component with the proceeds over the years going to the SPCA, IHC and Foundation for the Blind. In 2013 the proceeds were presented to Paw Justice, in 2014 the proceeds were presented to Foundation for the Blind for Guide Dogs and following the 2015 event the proceeds will be donated to HUHANZ. Two years after our club recognition, the NISBA was awarded Open Show status and thereafter Championship Show status opting to use Specialist Judges for these annual events whenever possible. We have enjoyed the various St. Bernard Breed Specialist Judges experience and knowledge which they are always willing to share with us at an informal dinner following the shows. We produce an informative e-magazine called Saint Scene and have hosted Canine Nutrition Seminars and Canine Behaviour Seminars all over the North Island with owners of all breeds of dogs attending them. In conjunction with Massey University, we conducted a breed survey to determine the incidence of hereditary diseases carried by St Bernards in New Zealand. A free online copy of our latest magazine is available to prospective club members. Please contact the Editor. 2016 BATTLE OF THE GIANTS - 23rd,24th & 25th June 2016 at Mangateopo School Camp, SH47 at the foot of Mt Ruapehu. This event does not include ringcraft and is a weekend of games and walks and fun for families with their dogs. This years theme - MID WINTER CHRISTMAS

31st CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2016 - Our 31st Championship Show will be held Katikati on the 22nd October 2016 in conjunction with the Tauranga Kennel Assn Inc Championship Shows. Judge - Mr Tan Nagrecha (UK).

Club Activities - ANNUALLY MAY - We support the Swiss Community at the Swiss Markets in Auckland. JUNE - The Battle of the Giants is held with invited breeds Newfoundlands, Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Leonbergers as close to the snow as we can get. This long standing event is a family fun weekend of games. 2016 Mid Winter Christmas. OCTOBER - Our Championship Show is held at Labour weekend. 2016 will be our 31st Anniversary.
