Wairarapa Dog Training Club
An obedient dog becomes an enjoyable part of the family, a companion instead of a nuisance, and even a sporting companion.
The Wairarapa Dog Obedience Club has experienced members that can help you to train your dog, and introduce you to other aspects of the dog sporting world. Once a working partnership has been formed there is little you cannot do.
All classes are held at the Wairarapa A&P Showgrounds in Carterton. Obedience is held on a Tuesday evening and Agility is held on a Monday evening. Four sets of training courses are scheduled throughout the year. Obedience Courses run for 8 weeks. Each course costs $50 for obedience/$60 Agility

Club Activities
Obedience training starts with basic commands, a puppy class for puppies that have completed their inital vaccination course and a beginners class for older dogs. Further classes take you from Elementary 1 right through to Advanced. As you move through the classes, you will be shown how to teach your dog to heel on and off the lead, to come when called, to sit and go down on command and stay there, and to retrieve. Your instructor can also help with all sorts of other day to day domestic training and 'doggy' matters. All our classes cost $50 per course.
Term 1 enrolment night is Tuesday 24th January 2017 6pm - 7pm. This will be a 8 week course. Please bring your vacination certificate and dog council registration number. Class spaces are limited.
For any further information please contact
Joan on email address j.gibbs@xtra.co.nz
Agility is a fast-paced sport in which the dog runs through a timed obstacle course as commanded by the handler. Agility strengthens the bond between dog and handler, and provides fun and exercise for both. Training starts with basic commands and equipment orientation. Dogs must be at least 12 months old before they can start these classes. To compete in competition they must be 18 months old. Dogs must also be fit and healthy. It is preferable if the dog and handler have attended a few obedience classes so that the dog is under basic control.
