Stormbay Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.

Featuring imported bloodlines from leading UK kennels, Stormbay Chesapeakes have excellent temperament, good health, coat, conformation and type.

Imports include NZ CH Penrose Mucky Duck, Penrose Open Fire, NZ CH Penrose Grasshopper and Penrose New Yorker from the leading UK kennel of Janet and Stuart Morris, Chesepi Taholah QC from Molly Barker in Yorkshire and Arnac Bay Sway QC from Christine Mayhew in West Sussex . American bred sires such as Quail Run's All the Way to Penrose and Pond Hollow Bering Sea have been used with the imported girls as the foundation for Stormbay Kennels. Look in our scrapbook (click on the logo at the top right of this page to enter) for lots of photos.

These imported Chesapeakes join us at our home in Kumeu with our NZ bred bitch Stormbraka of Shandanah QC. All are dual purpose Chesapeakes with proven field trial and show sucess, and are hunted over regularly.

Puppies available to approved homes. Imported stud dogs available to selected bitches. All our breeding dogs are either PRA "A" by breeding or genetically tested for PRA and are hip scored. Testing for DM has been undertaken on all our dogs so that breedings can be planned that avoid this problem.

Started gundogs and older hunting dogs are available to genuine hunting homes, please contact us for more details. Gundog training is available for all breeds and gundog training supplies such as bumpers and leads are also available. Enquires welcome.

Stormbay Kennels is owned by Commonwealth Games Shooting Gold Medallist Teresa Borrell, who actively field trials and hunts with all her Chessies.

At Home

Teresa and Arnac Bay Sway (Wave) at home.

Hunting with Chesapeakes is a way of life.

Wave's dam Arnac Bay Pride was Best Bitch of Breed at Crufts 2003 and again in 2005. Her litter brother, Arnac Bay Spokane, was Best of Breed at Crufts 2005.

Wave is an outstanding Chesapeake, winning field trials in her class and awarded her Field Trial QC in 2004.
Wave has also performed well in the show ring. She was a Pedigree Awards winner in 2003, Best Chesapeake Bay Retriever, winning more 'Best of Breed' in Championship shows than any other Chesapeake in New Zealand.

An excellent example of a Dual Purpose Chessie, we mated her with Rogue (Chesepi Taholah) last year and have been very impressed with her pups, exhibiting superb hunting and retrieving abilities at a young age.

1st Retriever- 2006 NZ Gundog Field Trial Championship

Chesepi Taholah QC (Rogue) bringing back a peacock.

Chessies are renown for their ability to retrieve large game birds such as peacock, geese and swan. They are the original water retrieving dog from the Chesapeake Bay, excelling in tough retrieves - large birds, big water and cold climates; the tougher the conditions the harder they go!
Rogue is no exception, taking his first Open Field Trial in 2005 and winning the 2006 NZ Gundog Retriever Field Trial Championship.

NZ Best of Breed 2004, NZ Show Champion 2005

Penrose Mucky Duck (Muddy), a four year old bitch from seven time Crufts Best Of Breed winner Janet Morris's Penrose kennels in the UK.
Muddy was Best Junior Bitch at Crufts 2003 and is a good sized bitch with a superb coat and temperament. She is by Penrose Harbour Master out of Penrose Dawn Shadow.

Muddy won Best Of Breed at the 2004 NZ National Dog Show and in 2005 attained NZ Champion status.
